Our Teachers

Kathy & Ellen

Kathy D’Alelio and Ellen Miller have been teaching at B-CC Nursery school for over twenty years each. During this time, they have welcomed over 300 children and their families through its doors. They are both moms to a son and a daughter, of whom the children love to hear stories. Three out of four of their combined children attended B-CC.

Kathy

Our Director, Kathy, a native of Kansas City, Missouri, teaches the 4 to 5 year old circle at B-CC. She earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Missouri University, and then pursued her interest in education abroad for several years while in the Peace Corps (Jamaica). Kathy went on to earn her Master’s Degree in Special Education from American University, with a special emphasis on emotionally disturbed youth.

Kathy spent several years working in special education, early childhood education, and teacher training. Today, this background serves as the cornerstone of her intuition as a teacher. She strongly believes in the power of recognizing children’s character traits at an early age so as to encourage them, reassure them, and guide them on a positive learning – and life – path.

Kathy retains the child’s way of appreciating the simple joys and humors in everyday life. She brings that joyful wonder, her wit, and her engaging mind to her classroom each and every day.

 Ellen

Ellen, a native of Bethesda, teaches the 3 to 4 year old circle at BCC. She earned her degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Maryland, proceeding to her first teaching position at a Montessori school. After taking a break from the work force to raise her 2 children, Ellen reengaged her passion in her current position at BCC.

From a very young age, Ellen knew she wanted to work with small children. A former volunteer with the Special Olympics, she worked as a teenager and while in college for Head Start. Ellen developed early in life a strong desire to create a fun, open, joyful learning environment for children, one in which they felt confident to voice their opinions and speak for themselves. In BCC, Ellen has found the ideal home where she can do just that.

Ellen likes to say, “I teach like a mother.” Her teaching style reflects her adoration of her students, a singular devotion to letting their individual character shine, and a creativity and enthusiasm that always make learning fun.
